CEBaP at the Global Evidence Summit (Prague, 10-13 September)

12/07/24

Six years after the first edition in Cape Town, South Africa, the second Global Evidence Summit (GES) will be held in Prague from 10 to 13 September 2024. The GES is a collaboration between four global leaders in evidence-based policy and practice: Cochrane, JBI, GIN, and the Campbell Collaboration. It is an inter-sectoral and multi-disciplinary event that is open to everyone with an interest in evidence production, systematic reviews, research synthesis, and evidence-informed policy and practice: researchers, students, policy makers, consumers of health or social care, and patients.

A CEBaP delegation will also attend the GES and contribute with 3 short oral presentations:

  • On Wednesday 11 September between 11:49 and 11:56 AM, PhD student Irvin Kendall will give a talk about Handling outcome multiplicity in systematic reviews on educational interventions: lessons learnt from a review on first aid training for laypeople in Concurrent Session C11 (at Hall D12). During his presentation, Irvin will describe how a systematic review on the effectiveness of first aid training for laypeople revealed no less than 190 outcome measures from 36 included studies, and how this unforeseen outcome multiplicity was tackled.
  • On Friday 13 September between 9:26 and 9:33 AM in Concurrent Session F4 (at Hall C3), a second oral presentation on The importance of a multidisciplinary expert panel when evidence is scarce: example of guidelines for psychosocial support after traumatic events will be given by Tine D'aes. First aid and other guidelines from the Belgian Red Cross are evidence-based. When evidence is scarce, as was the case in this guideline project for psychosocial support interventions by our Social Intervention Service, the input of the expert panel is especially important.
  • On the same day, our final talk, entitled Considering equity during guideline development: the Belgian Red Cross’ example on blood donor recruitment in sub-Saharan Africa, will be presented by Jorien Laermans from 11:34 to 11:41 AM as part of Concurrent Session G6 (at Hall D2). In sub-Saharan Africa, blood donation rates are too low to meet the demand. Jorien will explain how a guideline panel developed an evidence-based guideline on blood donor recruitment in sub-Saharan Africa, by considering the available evidence on the topic and at the same time fostering equity throughout the process.

Apart from giving presentations on their CEBaP work, Jorien and Tine are also hosting a workshop as coordinators of Cochrane First Aid, called Toolbox for effective evidence dissemination: a hands-on workshop. This workshop will take place on Tuesday 10 September from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM in Hall D3 and targets review authors, researchers, and students who want to learn how to plan and execute evidence dissemination successfully. Don't miss out on this opportunity to create a dissemination plan yourselves and put tips and tricks about certain products (e.g. social media messaging) into practice!

Should you be attending the GES, make sure to attend our oral presentations and participate in our workshop.

We hope to see you there! You can also follow our experiences via X.
